His extensive writings on colour theory include Chromophobia (2000) and The Luminous and the Grey (2014).
Recent exhibitions include Flatlands at Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh and Spike Island, Bristol, UK (2013/14); Light Show, touring to Hayward Gallery, London, UK/ Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, Australia/ Sharjah Art Foundation,United Arab Emirates (2013/2015 )and Color Chart the landmark survey exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York (2008). Batchelor has made many high profile public artworks including Sixty Minute Spectrum; a chromatic clock integrated into the roof of The Hayward Gallery, London, which counted down to the gallery's reopening. His works are held in the collection of Tate, London, UK; UBS Art Collection and Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Santiago, Chile.
