Over the past two years Collective Design has offered our community a digital alternative to visiting the fair, making our curated view of design available around the globe and around the clock. Beginning in May 2020 we presented two distinct exhibitions and made the works available for sale online, with more shows and collaborations in the works.
Our latest show / shop was 'On the Edge,' an online exhibition and sale of collectible design objects that explored the art of balance. Selected from Source studios, nearly a dozen of the offered works were made just for the show, including two crystal light fixtures from Christopher Boots and a 24-hour video from Milan-based Anotherview. Other selected studios included Callidus Guild, Sam Stewart, Max Lamb for Dzek Dzek, Cody Hoyt, and Héctor Esrawe.
In 2020 Collective Design partnered with Frieze New York to present the groundbreaking art fair’s first exhibition dedicated to design, curated by the London-based writer, historian and curator Libby Sellers. Works were chosen from an international group of galleries to feature unexpected and compelling pairings of art and design with all pieces available for sale on Frieze’s online platform. Historical and contemporary works by Martino Gamper, Nathalie Du Pasquier, Ettore Sottsass, Josef Albers, Dan Flavin, and Bruno Munari were presented with commissioned pieces direct from the studios of James Welling, Cody Hoyt, Sabine Marcelis, and Tanya Aguaniga.
