“If you've been to Mexico City in the past 10 years, you've probably experienced the aesthetic of Emmanuel Picault; he's designed the hottest hotels, bars and residences. Chic by Accident is his vision supercharged with his signature mix of vintage and contemporary furnishings, art and historical crafts."
”The phrase ‘chic by accident’ captures the accidental beauty of imperfection emblematic of Mexico’s freewheeling and colorful approach to design” says Emmanuel Picault, who created Chic by Accident in 2001. What began as a vintage furniture gallery quickly became an internationally acclaimed brand defined by Picault’s distinctive aesthetic tinted with modernist references, vernacular attitudes, sensitive Brutalism, whimsical gestures and a unique sense of humor.
In 2019 Emmanuel partnered with entrepreneur Manuel Herrera to reopen a Chic by Accident gallery in the heart of buzzing Colonia Roma, the stately neighborhood in Mexico’s capital known for its resurgent artistic community. Hosted in a magnificent 1920’s Porfirian style mansion, the two galleries and rooftop studio serve as a nexus for an outstanding collection of 20th century and contemporary Mexican design. Works of Mexican folk art, national modernism and Art Deco, the selection includes a playful mix of furniture, art, design objects and other curios. Famous or anonymous, with or without pedigree, the unifying concept is an approach where the singularity of each item and the combination of accidents creates a unique aesthetic environment.
Collectors, antiques dealers, decorators, designers, and private clientele share Chic by Accident’s taste, humor, and life, as well as knowledge and appreciation of Mexico’s design and beauty.
Emmanuel Picault and collaborators have produced a long list of private houses, restaurants, bars, hotels in Mexico and abroad through Picault’s architecture and design studio.
